Exchange your foreign driver's license for a Korean one

외국 운전면허를 한국 면허로 바꾸기

A foreign license alone does not let you drive in Korea. Go in person to a driver's license examination center (not a police station; no proxies). Bring: your valid full foreign license (no learner or temporary licenses), passport, residence card, 3 photos (3.5×4.5 cm, within 6 months), an embassy certificate or apostille for the license, and a certificate of entry and exit. You must have stayed over 90 days in the country that issued the license. Licenses from countries that recognize Korean licenses need only a physical check; others also need a written test (40 questions, in Korean, English, Chinese or Vietnamese). You usually get a Class 2 ordinary license. Apply before 5 pm, or before 4 pm if you need the test.

외국 면허증만으로는 한국에서 운전할 수 없어요. 경찰서가 아니라 전국 운전면허시험장에 직접 가서 바꿔요(대리 신청 불가). 준비물: 유효한 정식 외국면허 원본(임시·연습면허 불가), 여권, 외국인등록증, 6개월 안에 찍은 사진 3장(3.5×4.5cm), 대사관 확인서 또는 아포스티유, 출입국사실증명. 면허를 딴 나라에 90일 넘게 머문 기록이 있어야 해요. 한국 면허를 인정하는 나라의 면허는 신체검사만, 아닌 나라는 학과시험(40문항, 한국어·영어·중국어·베트남어 중 선택)도 봐요. 보통 2종 보통 면허로 바뀌어요. 오후 5시 전에 접수해야 하고, 시험을 봐야 하면 4시 전에 가세요.
