Seoul Silver Grass Festival 2026 (to Oct 23): Free Light Shows & Tips

A former landfill in western Seoul is covered in silver grass this month, and the city's free festival on top of it runs until Friday, October 23.

Why go

• The 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival (theme: "Silver grass, comfort from nature") fills Haneul Park in World Cup Park with gardens, photo spots and a wish zone.
• Haneul Park stands on Nanjido, where Seoul buried its garbage from 1978 to 1993. After years of restoration it opened as part of World Cup Park in 2002. Walking through tall grass on top of it shows how a city can repair its own land.
• After dark, the grass fields become the stage for a lighting show with music and colored lights.
• It is inside Seoul and reachable by subway, so you can go after work or class.

When

• Festival: until Fri, Oct 23, daily 10:00–21:00.
• Lighting show (central stage): on weekdays at 19:00, 19:30 and 20:00.
• Busking on the central stage: short sets between 14:00 and 17:40, with different performers each day.
• Hands-on programs (sign up on site): 13:30–17:30.
• Re-born market (upcycled and eco-friendly goods): 14:30–18:30.
• In October, World Cup Park closes at 21:00, and nobody can stay in the park after closing time.

Cost

• Entry is free. The hands-on programs with on-site sign-up are free too.
• Maengkkongi electric shuttle (Route 1, Nanjicheon Park to the top of Haneul Park): adults ₩2,000 one way or ₩3,000 round trip; children aged 4–12 ₩1,500 one way or ₩2,200 round trip.

Getting there

• Subway: take Line 6 to World Cup Stadium Station or Mapo-gu Office Station, then walk. The organizers say the walk takes about 40 minutes.
• Shuttle: the Maengkkongi electric shuttle runs from the Nanjicheon Park parking lot to the top of Haneul Park. In October and November it runs 09:00–19:00, every 10–20 minutes or as needed, and the last ride up leaves 30 minutes before service ends.
• By car: not recommended. The organizers warn that traffic is very heavy and ask visitors to use public transportation.

Tips

• If you stay for the lighting show, the shuttle will have stopped, so plan to walk down after dark. Wear comfortable shoes and keep your phone charged for its flashlight.
• Arrive before sunset to see the grass in daylight, then stay for the first show at 19:00.
• Rain changes the program. On Oct 18, busking, the market and all hands-on programs were cancelled because of rain. If the weather looks bad, check the official notice before you go.
• The hilltop is open and windy. Bring a warm layer.
• A stamp tour runs across the site: collect stamps at five mission spots and pick up a small gift at the festival office.
• The organizers have cancelled the 17:00 busking set on Oct 23.

Going alone?

Haneul Park is a short Line 6 ride from Hapjeong Station, right next to Hongdae. On omeetu you can open a meetup at the Seoul Hongdae meetup spot and head over together for the evening show. Meet first in a busy public place, and keep chats inside the app.
