The snow-covered thatched gassho farmhouses of this World Heritage village are lit up on four January evenings. Entry is limited to visitors with advance bookings.

Tips for visitors

Without a booking you will be turned away. Bus tours from Nagoya, Kanazawa or Takayama are the easiest route; wear snow boots.
